Do Paithani looms use dobby or jacquard for the motifs?
The Registry’s April 2010 journal entry for Paithani Sarees and Fabrics says that in some looms jacquard and dobby are used for the butta and border design. Jakado weaves its Paithani on jacquard looms in Surat.
Is the Paithani name tied to a place?
In the Registry’s entry, the weavers are mainly in Paithan Taluka of Aurangabad District and Yeola Taluka of Nashik District, Maharashtra. Jakado’s Paithani is woven in Surat, so we do not describe it as made in Paithan.
