FAQ
Questions about Banarasi silk sarees
Did Banarasi weaving move from draw looms to jacquard?
Yes, and the Registry’s own record says so. Its March 2009 journal entry for Banaras Brocades and Sarees says the weaving was earlier done on naksha draw looms and that jacquard equipment is now used. Jakado weaves its Banarasi silk on jacquard looms in Surat.
Which districts does the Banaras registration name?
The same journal entry names the weavers of Varanasi, Azamgarh, Mirzapur, Sant Ravi Nagar and Chandauli districts as producing Banaras silk sarees and brocades at that time. Jakado’s Banarasi silk is woven in Pipodara, Surat, and we describe it that way, so you can label and sell it accurately.
